Hawthorne House – Built in 1851 by Henry and Apolonia Fowle.  Henry was a son of John and Sarah Fowle and was among the first settlers to arrive in the Oak Creek Territory [now South Milwaukee], arriving in the spring of 1835 from Wadhurst, England.   Apolonia was the daughter of Reverend Abner Wood, and is a descendant of two signatories of the 1620 Mayflower Compact.

Amelia Elmore Morison served as Commissioner of the Milwaukee Girl Scouts, Inc. for many years and was on its board of directors for over 25 years.  When the Morison family moved out of their home at 300 Hawthorne Avenue (known as Hawthorne House), they donated it to the Girls Scouts in memory of Amelia’s mother, Harriet (Cook) Elmore, to be used as an overnight camp house.  The house is now a private residence.
